About Uttar Pradesh

The history of Uttar Pradesh is very much associated with thebroad history of India. It dates back to 4000 years. Formerly the area of UttarPradesh was occupied by Aryans or the Dasas and their main occupation wasagriculture. The Aryans through conquests occupied the adjoining areas. Theylaid the foundations of its civilisation in the region. It was during the Aryaninhabitation in the region that epics of Mahabharata, Ramayana, Brahmanas andPuranas were written. The state was the heart of Mahabharata war. The KosalaKingdom of Ayodhya is said to have been incarnated in the city of Mathura. Itwas sometime around the middle of the 1st millennium BC that Uttar Pradesh sawthe advent of Lord Buddha and the spread of Buddhism.

Around the time Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon at DhamekStupa in Sarnath, Uttar Pradesh was under the Magadh rule. The Chaukhandi Stupahere marks the spot where Lord Buddha met his disciples.it shares itsboundaries with Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Bihar,   Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Uttar Pradeshalso has an international border towards its north with Nepal.

Uttar Pradesh has multicultural, multiracial, fabulous wealth ofnature-hills, valleys, rivers, forests, and vast plains. This is the state thatgave the world Taj Mahal, the mascot for India; Varanasi, the spiritual hotspot; Sarnath, where Buddha preached for the first time, and Mathura, the placeso much synonymous with the life and times of Lord Krishna.
